PROGRAM
  • 46 percent of Hebrew University students serve every year on active reserve duty.

  • 15 - 20 percent of all students are defined as performing extended meaningful service; i.e. they are serving for 10 - 30 days every year. These days can be during the semester or exam period, leading to a loss of valuable working and/or study time.

  • As part of their service, reserve soldiers are a major part of every aspect of the IDF,  whether it is training younger soldiers or training with their units to ensure they keep fit and ready when needed.

  • Reserve duty soldiers participate in special missions such as first aid operations to countries struck by natural disasters. Most of these missions are staffed with reserve soldiers who establish field hospitals upon arrival.

  • In every military operation over 1000 students from Hebrew University are called up to serve in the IDF – many in combat roles. Students doing extended reserve duty suffer financial hardship when they lose the opportunity to work and save money for the school year.

  • Scholarship funds that are raised will be given to students who are performing an extended amount of service. They will be chosen based on need and their involvement in extracurricular activities.
